Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Ensuring the availability of the Electrical, Electromechanical, and fabrication workspaces that service various programmes and modules within the School and the Faculty. This will include direct involvement in setting up of laboratory practicals, student support in terms of projects, management of staff within the laboratory environment, mentoring of junior staff and students, and the management of ad hoc projects such as refurbishment or capacity extension.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Laboratory availability – New developments as well as maintenance of existing equipment.
- Facilitate and assist lecturers with the preparation and execution of practical assignments associated with the Electrical modules.
- Consult and mentor students with respect to their projects.
- Ensuring occupational safety for everybody in the workshop.
- Managing of infrastructure projects.
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A National Diploma – T3 / S4 in Electrical (NQF 6).
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in Electrical projects (new installations, upgrades and maintenance).
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in training people (one-on-one mentoring).
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Team Leader and Project Manager (infrastructure and capital).
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
- Certified electrician or master electrician of installation.
FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS):
- Electrical installations.
- Software skilled; capable in e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project.
- Discipline specific software e.g. AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, MicroStation.
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques e.g. 3D printing, Laser cutting, CNC milling - desirable.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Work accurately, quickly, safely and neatly.
- Apply good time management.
- Function autonomously and effectively as part of a team
