Job description

 PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The position aims to address undergraduate teaching to B Nursing-students in the subject of Pharmacology and Dispensing in the School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences. A lecturer is needed on the Mahikeng campus to coordinate these modules (PHAN 211, PHAN 221 and PHAP 421) for all nursing students. Currently this is coordinated from the Potchefstroom campus and the MC students attend mostly online. This is not conducive towards alignment of the B Nursing programme or the student experience. A part of this lecturer's responsibility is overseeing practical work of nursing students in module PHAP421, Pharmacy: Dispensing of Medicine.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Undergraduate Teaching and Learning:

  • Teaching and learning including co-ordination of service modules in the School of Pharmacy (subject group: Pharmacology) to the undergraduate students in the B-Nursing programme  and be compliant with the relevant Statuary body’s requirements.
  • Assist in curriculum development.

Research:

  • Getting involved in and conducting research within the relevant research entity, with the aim to improve qualifications.
  • Research activities can either be in the Research entity MUSA or in SoTL.

Leadership, management, service to the University and social responsiveness:

  • Provide service to the University by contributing to the definition and achievement of its goals and enable it to be a healthy organisation. This includes being a member of faculty and subject group committees and working parties within the University.
  • Maintain an involvement in community service as a scholarly practice through the application of pharmacological knowledge and skills.
  • Administration and other tasks, especially liaising with relevant parties to enable effective teaching and learning.
  • Liaison with the lecturers and module coordinators on the Potchefstroom campus to ensure alignment and smooth operation in the modules and program on both campuses.

Minimum requirements

  • A BPharm (NQF level 8) in Pharmacology.
  • Registered as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

ADDED ADVANTAGE

  • Membership with the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA). 
  • An MSc/M Pharm (NGF level 8) in Pharmacology/ Pharmacy Practice/ Clinical Pharmacy.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in lecturing to undergraduate students in a BPharm or Nursing curriculum within the field of Pharmacology/Pharmacy Practice.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ research experience relating to Pharmacology/ Pharmacy Practice/ Clinical Pharmacy.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • A sound knowledge of Pharmacology/Dispensing/Pharmacy Practice.
  • Presentation/lecturing skills.
  • Language proficiency in Afrikaans and English (reading, writing and speech).
  • Computer literate.

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Good communication skills (verbal, written and use of technology).
  • Professional and ethical behaviour.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Innovative, dynamic and enthusiastic.
  • Ability to function under pressure.
  • Ability to build and encourage healthy human and collegial relationships at all levels in the NWU’s environment.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
