Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To conduct professional teaching and research in line with NWU teaching and learning and research and innovation strategy as well as financial industry requirements. Provide strategic leadership and ensure that outputs are of excellent quality and on a global standard.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Teaching and Learning:
·   Teaching Subject related modules to students in a multi-mode delivery approach.
·   Programme development to introduce new modules at undergraduate as well as postgraduate level in alignment with all campuses of the NWU.
·   Responsible for extensive assessment in teaching.
·   Subject group and student support.
·   Strict collaboration with SALA (Student Academic Life Cycle).
·   Assure quality teaching, learning and assessment at all applicable levels of programme delivery.
·   Involvement in the Faculty’s work integrated learning (WIL) programme.
2.    Research and Innovation:
·   Conduct and supervise research projects as required.
·   Consultation with students.
·   Involvement in research activities of the Faculty.
·   Adding value to the Faculty and subject group.
·   Personal research development to become an independent and competent researcher in the field of study within the subject group.
3.    Community Engagement:
·   Participate in and support community engagement initiatives and projects in the subject group and the Faculty.
4.    Administrative and subject group involvement:
·   Limited administrative functions primarily connected with subjects in which the employee teaches.
·   Acting as subject coordinators provided that skills and experience demonstrate this capacity.
·   Attendance at school and/or Faculty meetings and/or membership of a limited number of committees.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Physical Geography with specialisation in Geomorphology or Fluvial Geomorphology.

EXPERIENCE:
·         A minimum of 2 years’ experience in teaching and research at a tertiary education institution.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Knowledge of modern platforms (whiteboard technology, efundi, etc) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.
·         Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
·         Subject related administrative and management skills.
·         Computer literacy in MS office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) internet and email.

·         Demonstrate language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU.
·         Excellent interpersonal, intercultural, organisational and communication skills.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
