Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Teaching and Learning:
·       Teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Involvement at UG & PG including supervision, critical reading, examination and moderation and any other responsibilities as required. 

Research and Innovation:
·        Creative research output in accordance with the level of appointment. This includes publication, conference attendance and presentation, workshops and colloquia.

Academic leadership, management and administration/ university service:
·       Participate in leadership roles within the faculty, membership in faculty committees as and when requires, administration and service to the university by serving on institutional structures.

Community and scientific Engagement/ Social responsiveness:
·        Share expertise and service to the scientific community.
·        Engage in community engagement and social cohesion, including media commentary, serving on review structure inside and outside the faculty/university, promotion of the university image and internationalisation.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
·       Adhere to the OHS standards and policies of the university.
·       Participate in the OHS committees as and when required.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·        An LLM in any field in law.
·        A LLB qualification (NQF Level 7)
·        Admission as an attorney or an advocate.
·        A minimum of 2 years’ experience in academia.

 ADDED ADVANTAGE:
·        A minimum of 3 years’ post-admission experience as an attorney or an advocate (desirable) or experience in a legal practice
·        Publications in accredited journals.
·        Proven record of post-graduate supervision.
·        Preference will be given to candidates with expertise concerning teaching-learning and research in any of the following subject fields: Private Law, Private International Law, Law of Delict, Moot Court, Constitutional Law or Development and Local Government Law. However, candidates with expertise in any other legal field will be considered.

 FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
·        Legal language skills
·        Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as email, Internet and the electronic retrieval of legal sources. The ability to / experience in online teaching and ability and to use LMS will be an advantage.
·        Experience in curriculum development

 BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
·       The ability to work with large groups of people.
·       The ability to accommodate multiculturalism.
·       Good communication skills (verbal and written).
·       Language skills to function optimally in the different multilingual environments of the NWU.
·       Good interpersonal relations

REMUNERATION:
