PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Teaching and learning, research and community engagement in the field of Educational Psychology.
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and learning - and supervision:
- Conduct teaching in the field of Educational Psychology at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Initiation and development of subject material.
- National and institutional leadership in teaching and learning.
- Supervision of Honours, Masters’ and Doctoral students.
Research:
- Engage in publications and other research or creative work that are highly commended.
- Conducting of research via research projects.
- Involvement in professional activities related to Educational Psychology.
Community Engagement, Teaching Practice and Administrative/ Leadership Tasks:
- Engage in CE via appropriate projects – also linked to the CE activities of the Subject Group.
- Involvement in teaching practice of students.
- Engage in administrative tasks related to the position – and become involved in leadership positions over time.
Minimum requirements
- A PhD (NQF level 10) in Educational Psychology or Psychology of Education.
- A Professional Teacher’s Qualification in Education (NQF level 7).
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Educational Psychology or Psychology of Education practice.
In addition to the above:
SENIOR LECTURER
- Two accredited publications and one completed higher degree supervision.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ higher education teaching experience.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
- Record of consistent accredited publications and higher degree supervision.
- A minimum of four (4) years’ higher education teaching experience.
ADDED ADVANTAGE(S)
- Psychology 3 at undergraduate level (NQF level 6).
- An honour’s and/or master’s degree (NQF level 8/9) in Educational Psychology or Psychology of Education.
- Accreditation with SACE.
- Professional registration with the HPCSA.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ school teaching experience.
KEY FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge and Skills):
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet.
- Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
- Research outputs.
- A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment.
- Involvement in the development of and have responsibility for curricula and programs of study (award courses),
- Effective time-management skills.
- Effective communication skills.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.
- The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group.
- Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.
- The ability to solve problems independently.
- Good planning and organising skills as well as good report writing skills.
REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
