Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To conduct teaching, learning and research on small stock production and management and other academic related activities in animal science department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching and learning, deliver modules to undergraduate students of Animal Science.
- Personal Research, Innovation and/or Creative Outputs.
- OHS.
- People Management.
- Social Responsiveness and Industry Involvement.
Minimum requirements
- A PhD (NQF level 10) specialising in Animal Science.
- Professional membership with SASAS and/or SACNASP.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ small stock production and management experience.
- Experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
- At least 1 article in accredited journal
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to deliver lecture and conduct practical in small ruminant production and management and WIL modules.
- Proficient in the use of Statistical Analysis System (SAS), SPSS and GenStat/Minitab for data analyses.
- Primary responsibility for leading the research culture in an academic unit.
- Has supervised Hons student projects and a minimum of at least 4 MSc and 1 PhD in the last 5 years, submitted and published papers in the DHET accredited Journal Article.
- Good scientific paper writing and communication skills.
- General computer applications and statistical computer software.
- Designing experiments and statistical data analysis.
- In depth subject knowledge/expertise in Animal Science.
- Good data analysis and interpretations skills.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- The ability to function effectively as part of the team in a multi-cultural environment.
