Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position has been planned to lecture the Facilities Management module and assist with lecturing the F ENG 411 Engineering management course which is a final year engineering course which is taken by industrial engineering students. Over and above, these courses the incumbent must be able flexible and be able to adapt to teaching most of the Industrial Engineering courses at an undergraduate and postgraduate level.
In addition, this position will add more capacity to the Industrial school in terms of the PG Diploma, the numbers have almost doubled since
last year and we are currently running two cohorts in parallel. We therefore need to build additional capacity in the School of Industrial Engineering.
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching & Learning
- Lecture typical Industrial Engineering modules, assist with final year projects specifically FENG411 Engineering management and lecturing Facilities management. Emphasises is on lecturing at an undergraduate level and at a postgraduate level specifically PG Dip modules.
Research
- Quality research in the areas such as but not limited to Engineering management, project management, facilities management, renewable and sustainable energy specifically techo-econometric models, SMART factories.
Implementation/Commercialisation
- Ensure the commercial implementation of research results Involvement in community projects.
Management
- Involvement in the management of the school
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
SENIOR LECTURER
- An appropriate PhD degree an appropriate Master’s degree combined with professional registration as industrial engineer
- Either a degree in Industrial Engineering, or a degree in another engineering discipline combined with significant appropriate Industrial Engineering experience.
- A research portfolio as can be expected from a senior lecturer.
- At least one degree in Engineering with specialization in Industrial Engineering
- 3 years appropriate work experience
LECTURER
- A Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering (NQF 9) is essential
- A minimum of 1 year of lecturing experience
JUNIOR LECTURER
- A Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering (NQF 8) is essential
- A minimum of 6 months of lecturing experience
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
- Registration with ECSA Pr Eng (application in progress)
- A minimum of 2 years’ research experience
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Competent in Industrial Engineering subjects for teaching/learning purposes
- Competent in relevant Industrial Engineering computer packages
- Competent in Industrial Engineering research
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Must be able to interact with undergraduate students
