Job description

Laboratory Work and Cleaning

·        Washing glassware.

·        Supplying distilled water to various Laboratories.

·        Removal of Biohazard Waste.

·        Cleaning of Fridges & Freezers & Temperature monitoring.

·        Inventory management & placing orders for various waste containers to Senior Admin.

·        Inventory management & placing orders for various cleaning materials to Senior Admin.

·        Cleaning laboratories, storerooms & practical labs.

·        Removing empty glass bottles from laboratories & discard.

Messenger Work

·        Always be available for urgent messenger work.

·        Collecting courier packages & mail.

·        Delivery of parcels to relevant persons & laboratories.

·        Collection of orders from various NWU on-campus stores.

·        Receiving parcels.

Health and Safety

·        Filling in weekly checklists.

·        Reporting any issues.

·        Maintenance of First Aid Kits.

·        Attend First Aid & other Safety Courses.

·        Occupational Health and Safety Officer duties.

·        Assistance with Fire Drills.

Relief services

·        Providing relief services for Departmental Assistant.

Supervisory duties

·        Overseeing of cleaners.

Administration

·        Emails, filing, and record keeping.

Ad-Hoc

·        Ad hoc tasks as required.

Minimum requirements

·        A valid driver’s licence.

·        A minimum of 1 year experience of chemical handling.

·        A minimum of 1 year experience in a supervisory position.

·        A minimum of 1 year health & safety experience.

·        A minimum of 1 year administration experience.

ADDED ADVANTAGES:

·        Grade 12 (NQF level 4).

·        Own transport.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

·        Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, email, internet) with accurate typing skills.

·        Excellent reading and writing skills in multilingual languages.

·        Performing any other duties as requested by Line manager (Ad-Hoc).

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

·        Solid organizational skills.

·        Excellent time management skills.

·        Punctual, on-time completion of set tasks imperative.

·        Physical agility – physically fit and able to perform required physical tasks.

·        Able to work in a team and as an individual.

·        Excellent communication skills.

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines
