Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Functional operation in Teaching and Learning, Research and Innovation, Community Engagement and leadership in the School of Nursing.

 

EY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Teaching and Learning:

  • Lead students and support with Teaching and Learning module in undergraduate  program.
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of undergraduate program.
  • Develop, register, coordinate and present Short Learning Programmes (SLPs)
  • At the teaching and learning director’s discretion, assist specific schools where the incumbent has the knowledge and expertise with both undergraduate and post-graduate modules where requested..
  • Facilitate simulation laboratory teaching  and clinical learning activities.
  • Mange teaching and learning records of undergraduate students
  • Management, support and development of students in clinical practice.
  • Coaching and mentoring in both theory and clinical nursing .
  • Participate in scholarship for teaching and learning projects

 

2.       Research and Innovation:

  • Apply for funding in (multidisciplinary) research projects.
  • Increased number of publications
  • Conduct research and publish findings in respected national and international journals.
  • Support and lead the enhancement of publications for a developing research staff compliment.
  • Supervise postgraduate  students.
  • Participate in updating and development of research methodology course work for masters and PhD students.
  • Initiate and maintain national and international research networks.
  • Participate in the evaluation of ethics and research proposals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Unit where appropriate.
  • Innovatively transform the research practice within the school.

 

3.       Community engagement:

  • Participate and support community engagement activities/projects.
  • Register and engage in school community engagement projects.
  • Development of projects to the benefit of community, health and nursing service delivery.
  • Work with related schools to promote inclusion and capability where possible.

 

4.       Academic Leadership:

  • Arrange and present workshops based on the expertise for various targeted groups, based on current developments within the nursing field.
  • Serve on related research/ethics/integrity/management committees as directed by the school director.
  • To stay abreast with new developments in nursing and related fields.
  • Lead students and support personnel in postgraduate Teaching and Learning.
  • Support and empower with nursing clinical programmes.

 

5.       Adhoc:

  • Participate in School committees and external committees affiliated to the school.

Minimum requirements

  • A master’s degree (NQF level 9) in any Nursing related field.
  • A postgraduate qualification (NQF level 8) in nursing Education
  • A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in a higher education environment.
  • Clinical experience in medical and surgical nursing.

RECCOMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

  • Accreditation with the South African Nursing Council.
  • Specialisation in any medical or surgical nursing
  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a nurse educator.
  • Proven track record of postgraduate supervision.

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
