Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Appointing a Senior lecturer to contribute towards undergraduate and post graduate teaching, supervision of students and research supervision of post graduate students in the subject group Psychology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning:
Teaching and Learning:
- The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions.
- Initiation and development of subject material.
Development and Supervision:
- The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
- Supervision of the program of study of honours students or of postgraduate students engaged in course work.
- Teaching activities include initiation and development of unit materials and may include the supervision of honours and research students.
Research and Innovation:
- Supervision of major honours or postgraduate research projects.
- The conduct of research.
- Involvement in professional activity.
Academic leadership:
- Development of course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees.
- Consultation with students.
Minimum requirements
- A master’s degree in Counselling Psychology (NQF level 9).
- Registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the HPCSA.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in teaching and learning (blended contact sessions with university students).
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in research and innovation (stable publication record, a minimum of two (2) published articles and supervision of postgraduate students towards graduation).
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Generic Counselling Psychology (direct practice and/or Counselling Psychology supervisory/ managerial).
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability and experience to work from an evidence-based approach in psychology.
- Excellent communication skills (verbally and written).
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft office, e-mails, power point, software for data analysis).
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to use e-media for teaching, studying and communication.
- The ability to work well independently as well as in a team.
- Good time management and ability to work well under pressure.
