PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To transport students from all 4 programs in the SoAS to and from the farm daily for their practicals and research. The driver will also help in transporting research students to various experimental sites and when deemed necessary transport students to other provinces where we take students for work integrated learning (WIL). The driver will be supervised directly from the School director’s office within the framework of the SOP and NWU policies.1. Drives NWU transportation vehicle within a prescribe route(s) in accordance with the time schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops.
2. May operate a special ramp bus; loads and unloads students in wheelchairs on and off bus, inspecting wheelchair for operational safety; operates ramp; positions and secures wheelchair in bus.
3. Transports students, Technicians and General workers on field trips to various locations; planning necessary route(s) and stops as needed.
4. Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to traffic policy Conduct safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily.
5. Conduct safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily and reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary.
6. Service busses with fuel and oil and maintain regular road worthiness of the bus.
7. General bus maintenance and cleanliness.
8. Complete and maintain proper log-sheets for mileage.
9. Maintain safety and first aid of passengers.
10. Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4).
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in bus / truck driving.
- A valid Code C driver’s license with PrDP.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of motor vehicle codes for operation of busses.
- Knowledge of basic first aid practices and practices.
- Ability to undertake both written and oral instructions.
- Ability to exercise good judgement and extreme caution while driving.

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
