Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Responsible for the overall management of the Catering Services Department on the Mahikeng Campus Student Centre Cafeteria and Coffee Shop.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Catering and Operations
  • The management and operation of all catering activities by exercising careful control over all revenues and expenses, within the budget.
  • Planning purposeful catering services within the Cafeteria and Coffee Shop.
Control
  • Establishing effective administration and financial control to ensure that the division is effectively operated and managed within the budget.
  • Overall responsible for the establishment of product application that addresses customer need, while at the same time ensuring the cost-effectiveness of the division within budget.
  • Management, control, maintenance, and upgrade of the division within laid down OHS legislation.
  • Ensuring continuous quality control in all areas within the division.
  • Involved in compliance and compliance with "Use of University Facilities" Liquor Act, Hygiene and Food Safety.
Administration
  • Collaborate in the further development and alignment of the Varsity Vending system to meet the division's own and unique needs.
  • Taking out temporary liquor licenses for activities for which NWU liquor licenses are used.
  • Annual renewal of Liquor Licenses.
Liaison
  • Internal and external liaison to introduce and market the services of the Cafeteria and Coffee Shop.
  • Effective marketing and management of communication channels.
Personnel management
  • Successful recruitment and selection of staff in new and vacant posts.
  • Performance management and associated motivation and equipment of personnel to function within expected and agreed standards.
  • Application of grievances and disciplinary action.
  • Effective planning and management of division in respect of Contracted Personnel.
Personal Development
  • Development of self and subordinates.
  • Innovation, investigation and implementation of new ideas, technologies, or improved processes.

Minimum requirements

  • A bachelor's degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF level 7) in Management or related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ (middle) management experience.
KEY FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Good communication skills.
  • Problem solving.
  • Computer Literacy.
  • Good report writing.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to manage a team.

REMUNERATION   
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
