Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To ensure the achievement of the IT Department’s goals through effective managerial leadership. This includes IT planning, resourcing, support, end-user training and stakeholder and partner liaison.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    IT Service Delivery Management of NWU IT:
  • Establish, refine, align and manage service delivery processes to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
  • Drive the regular review/improvement of IT services to meet customer demand.
  • Manage IT, telecommunication, teaching & learning technologies and electronic infrastructure to ensure optimal capacity and availability.
  • Manage development and implementation of IT end-user training programme to enable the effective and efficient use of IT services.
 
2.    General Management:
  • Manage customer relations for improved customer satisfaction and improved service delivery that meets customer demands.
  • Establish/manage strategic partnerships to promote/improve IT services that meet customer requirements.
  • Represent IT in delivery sites and IT committees.
  • Identify, assess and manage risks inherent to the operation of IT.
  • Responsible for implementing cyber security practices identified by the Cyber Security Programme.

3.    Financial Management:
  • Compile, motivate, negotiate and manage a financial budget.
  • Manage IT expenditure ensuring IT financial targets are met.
  • Manage procurement of IT infrastructure within financial guidelines.

4.    Human Resource Management:
  • Optimal organisation of recruitment, development, leadership, control and performance of human resources in the department.
  • Provides organisational leadership and guidelines to promote the development and exploitation of technical knowledge in the organisation.

5.    Strategic Planning:
  • Participate in the development of IT strategies to ensure stakeholder IT requirements are included.
  • Implement campus IT strategy, ensuring alignment with campuses and NWU IT strategies.

6.    Project Management:
  • Initiate and manage strategic projects which meet the project success criteria.

Minimum requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field OR any bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) with an Advanced Diploma in Information Technology OR any bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) with relevant IT certfications.

EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in IT service delivery of which five (5) years should be at a management level.

ADDED ADVANTAGE:
  • An Honour’s degree (NQF level 8) in Information Technology.
  • Management related qualification.
  • Applicable courses in Information Technology.
  • Experience in a university environment.
  • IT Industry experience.
