Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
·        Teaching and Learning
o   Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Geography and Environmental studies.
 
·        Research
o   Research in the field of Geography and Environmental Education with appropriate publications.
 
·        Community Engagement
     

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·        A Professional Teacher’s qualification in Education (NQF Level 6 – 8).
·        An honours degree in Geography or Environmental Studies Education (NQF Level 8)
·        A minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching Geography and Environmental Education in school or a higher education institution.
 
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
·        A bachelor’s degree in Physical Geography Education.
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·        Knowledge of teaching in different modes of delivery.
·        Computer proficient – command of Word, Power point and Excel.
·        Experience of Efundi will be beneficial.
·        Language proficiency to function in a multilingual environment.
·        Teaching experience at primary/secondary/tertiary level.
 
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
·        Good interpersonal relations.
·        The ability to work with large groups of people.
·        Ability to adhere to timelines and deadlines.
·        Good communication skills (verbal, written and use of technology.
·        Language skills in order to function in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
·        Ability to work independent, problem solving, systematically and innovative.
·        Ability to function effectively under pressure.
