Introduction NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF HUMANITIES POSITION NUMBER: P000689 VACANCY: JUNIOR LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A9 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The School of Communication Studies at the NWU (Potchefstroom Campus) has one vacancy for a Junior Lecturer in the vibrant and dynamic field of Graphic design with specialisation in Design.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning:
  •    Teach and develop Multimedia Design modules, from first to fourth year level.
  •    Utilize research in the guidance and facilitation of first to fourth year graphic design projects.
  •    Teach Computer literacy in most recent version of Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud: Illustrator, Photoshop, After effects, Premiere Pro, Audition, Character Animate, Blender/Cinema 4D/ Maya in all graphic design modules.
  •    Teach in videography/cinematography/photography in graphic design modules
  •    Engage proficiently within an Apple MAC Studio environment.
 Curriculum development:
  •    Contribute to curricular revision to reflect the latest trends in the field, and to build and expand the subject group.
 Scholarly work:
  •    Participate in research projects with colleagues.
 Study guidance:
  •    Provide study guidance support to students on in their final year of study
 Administration and other tasks:
  •    Responsible for all administrative tasks with regards to the above.
  •    Develop and update study guide.
  •    Administrate student marks and assessment.
  •    Share responsibility for committee and department assignments as required.
  •    Participate in services related to the life of the School and the community.

Minimum requirements

  •     Four-year degree/ Honours Degree in Graphic Design.
  •     Experience in teaching and learning Undergraduate & Postgraduate students with Four-year degree/ Honours degree in Graphic design.
  •     Practical, significant industry experience as a Graphic designer.
FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
  •     Knowledge of the higher education environment.
  •     Knowledge of industry-related environments.
  •     Sound understanding of the broad Graphic design discipline.
  •     Knowledge of theoretical and practical expertise in terms of graphic design.
  •     An understanding of the broader visual communications industry.
  •     Contribution to the research requirements of the research niche with which the Graphic Design subject group is part of.
  •     The ability to liaise with industry and public as needed.
  •     The ability to secure industry and/or community projects for collaboration.
  •     The ability to organize projects outside of the scope if teaching to enrich the teaching and learning environment for the Subject Group.
  •     Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.

  •     Team player within groups.
  •     Sound relations with colleagues.
  •     Able to work independently.
  •     Ethical principles.
 
REMUNERATION:
