PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Teaching, research, and community engagement in the field of Geography and Environmental Education.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching & Learning
· Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Geography and Environmental studies.
2. Research
· Research in the field of Geography and Environmental Education with appropriate publications.
3. Community Engagement
· Community Engagement
Minimum requirements
LECTURER :
A Professional Teacher’s Qualification (6-8 NQF Level).
· A. Master’s degree (9 NQF Level) in Geography or Geography Education or Environmental Studies in Education.
· A minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching Geography and Environmental Education in a primary/secondary school or higher education environment.
JUNIOR LECTURER:
· A Professional Teacher’s Qualification (6-8 NQF Level).
· A. Honours (8 NQF Level) in Geography or Geography Education or Environmental Studies in Education.
· A minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching Geography and Environmental Education in a primary/secondary school or higher education environment.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
· A Doctorate (10 NQF Level) in Geography Education.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Knowledge of teaching in different modes of delivery.
· Computer proficient – command of Word, Powerpoint and Excel. Experience of Efundi will be beneficial.
· Language proficiency to function in a multilingual environment.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· Good interpersonal relations.
· The ability to work with large groups of people.
· Ability to adhere to timelines and deadlines.
· Good communication skills (verbal, written and use of technology).
· Language skills in order to function in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
· Ability to work independent, problem solving, systematically and innovative.
· Ability to function effectively under pressure.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
