Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

  • Lecture marketing management modules to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Create and produce research outputs (peer-reviewed articles, master’s dissertations and PhD theses, conference papers and peer-reviewed chapters/books) through own research efforts and the efforts of master’s and PhD students by using the best available research methods and techniques.
  • Initiate, develop, register and present community engagement projects.
  • Mentor academics in the School of Management Sciences in teaching and research-related areas.
  • Contribute to and enhance the national and international collaboration networks in the School of Management Sciences.
  • Contribute to the creation of an environment that promotes growth, equality, and freedom of speech.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Teaching and learning of modules in Marketing Management:

  • The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
  • The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions.
  • Initiation and development of study material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees.
  • Marking and assessment.
  • Consultation with students.
  • Teaching activities may include initiation and development of unit materials and may include the supervision of honours and research students.

 

2.       Research and Innovation:

  • Research in area of expertise and generating research outputs in accredited conference proceedings and academic journals.
  • Supervision of honours or postgraduate research projects.
  • Involvement in professional activity.

 

3.       Community engagement:

  • Involvement in and initiation of sustainable community upliftment initiatives.

 

4.       Administration and self-development:

  • Administrative duties related to School activities and academic programs.

Minimum requirements

·        Senior Lecturer:

  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Marketing Management or relevant field.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the presentation of relevant subjects in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
  • Show evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative works, and postgraduate supervision.

 

·        Associate Professor:

  • A PhD (NQF level 10) in Marketing Management or relevant field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ lecturing experience in higher education institutions.
  • Proven record of national and international relations with academics and higher education institutions on research and/or teaching collaboration.
  • Master’s and PhD supervision.
  • Proven record of consistent publications in accredited journals in accordance with the level of the position.
  • Proven record of the development and execution of community and industry projects.

RECOMMENDATIONS

·        Proven record of leadership in higher education management structures.

 

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
