Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of the position is to support the technology marketing and communications efforts of the Technology Transfer and Innovation Support (TTIS) office. The holder of the position will work closely with managers and commercialisation specialists in the development and implementation of targeted marketing strategies for new and existing technologies in the TTIS portfolio. She/he will also be responsible for effective communication strategies for the TTIS office and its various programmes. The coordinator will organise and/or coordinate various marketing and outreach events of the TTIS office such as information sessions, seminars and training workshops for both internal and external audiences. The incumbent will also play a significant role in the innovation and entrepreneurship competitions organised by the office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Marketing of technologies and innovations:
- Assisting commercialisation team with editing and proofreading of technology marketing briefs.
- Uploading and posting of technology marketing material on relevant platforms.
2. Communication and content management:
- Create and curate marketing and communication content for the TTIS office for publishing in various media platforms.
- Lead the design and printing of all marketing materials for the TTIS office
3. Event management:
- Coordinate annual programmes for all TTIS events pertaining to training, outreach,
- student entrepreneurship competitions, and induction programmes.
4. TTIS Webpage:
- Regular review, curation and updating of contents of the webpage.
5. Social Media:
- Marketing on NWU official social media platforms.
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Marketing/Communications//Journalism/ Media Studies or a BSc degree (NQF level 7) in Science/ Technology.
- 3 years’ experience in marketing and communications in a corporate environment, or within a higher education, science or research environment.
- 2 years’ experience in marketing of technology and/or innovation products.
- 2 years’ experience in digital marketing and social media.
RECOMMENDATION:
- A Postgraduate qualification (NQF level 8) in Marketing/Communications, with an ability to market IP and technologies or a Postgraduate qualification (NQF level 8) in Science/Technology with a knack of marketing and communications.
- Experience with websites including HTML, CSS coding.
- Experience with graphic design, web design, or video production.
- Experience in and/or good understanding of technology transfer, innovation management or entrepreneurship.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Professional English writing, editing, and proofreading:
- Ability to translate technical and scientific information for non-academic and/or business audiences.
- Excellent project management and organisational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
- Ability to adapt content strategies based on team feedback and audience relevance.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
