Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To fulfil all Communications Officer requirements for both internal and external stakeholders, whilst focusing on the commercialisation of CTexT’s products, and general administrative duties.
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Commercialisation:
  • Product marketing and liaison with distributors, new project development, electronic communication (Web, Social Media), and elements related to product development (graphics, manuals, installation screens, etc.). Demonstration and training workshops for software products, specifically for Afrikaanse SkryfGoed.
Communication:
  • Internal (newsletter, announcements), and external (media, interest groups, press-releases), collaborators and stakeholders, maintenance of the corporate identity of CTexT (templates, lay-outs, décor). 
General:
  • Staff-based administration including student recruitment, events management, archiving, project involvement (as project member and project manager), and strategic planning (problem-solving, strategy implementation).

Minimum requirements

Minimum requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Communication, Marketing, or relevant field.
  • A certificate in graphic design software.
  • A minimum of 2 year’s relevant experience in a wide variety of facets of communication, including media liaison, corporate identity management, commercialisation, events management, liaison with external interest groups.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in web page development and maintenance, design of marketing material, newsletters, and the creation and management of corporate branding.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in the creation and management of an online presence (including social networking) for business purposes.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Dream Weaver, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
  • Advanced computer literacy, with specific reference to MS Windows, Office, and Project.
  • The ability to learn other applications (quick mastering of a variety of applications used in language technology, and specifically in CTexT, is a requirement).
  • Advanced skills in web-page design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Dreamweaver, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Sound administrative and organisational skills and the ability to function effectively under pressure and to meet pre-set deadlines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of public communications, public relations, and marketing guidelines.
  • Knowledge of linguistics or computer linguistics
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
  • The ability to work as part of a team and adapt to the work method of the team, as well as to work independently.
  • The ability to prioritise, manage and complete several tasks simultaneously.
  • Good communication skills and presentation abilities as well as interpersonal relations, and a positive client-service orientation.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU.
REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
