PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To teach technical proficiency at undergraduate level, supervise postgraduate research on an appropriate level and to actively engage in research.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching:
- Preparation of study guides and subject material.
- Managing practical sessions for students.
- Delivery of lectures and sessions where needed.
- Marking and grading of assessments.
- General module administration.
- Conduct research towards own qualification (if not PhD).
- Supervision of postgraduate students.
- Involvement in professional/academic societies.
Administration:
- Representation on Faculty-specific committees.
- General workshop administration and compliance.
- General workshop maintenance, planning and budgets.
Minimum requirements
- Artisan qualification as boilermaker, millwright or fitter and turner with a qualification in education (NQF level 6), or a degree in Education specialising in Technological Education (NQF level 7).
In addition to the above,
LECTURER:
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) NQF level 9.
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) with Mathematics NQF level 7.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ artisan experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ teaching and learning experience or certificate in teaching and learning.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PG Dip), NQF level 8.
- Postgraduate Certificate (PGCE) in Education.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
Must be proficient in the following:
- Fitting, milling, turning, thread cutting, welding and soldering.
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet.
- Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
- Research methodology and technical writing.
- A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing.
- Effective time-management skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
- The ability to function well individually and as part of a team or subject group.
- Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.
- The ability to solve problems independently.
- Good planning and organising skills as well as good report writing skills.
- A high level of professional and ethical conduct.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
