Job description
Teaching, research and community engagement in the field of Early Childhood Development and Education in English Home Language Education.
Teaching
- Teaching several modules in ECDE English Home Language Education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels – in both distance and contact mode.
Research and supervision
- Research and postgraduate supervision in the field of ECDE English Home Language Education, with appropriate publications.
Programme development
- Curriculum development, among others developing study material and study guides for ECDE English Home Language Education modules in the different programmes.
Administration
- Administration of assignments, assessments, marks, resources, etc.
Community Engagement
- Community Service.
Work Integrated Learning
- Work Integrated Learning / Teaching
Minimum requirements
- An honours degree (NQF level 8) in Education with specialisation in ECDE, English Home Language Education or
- Related (Junior Lecturer).
- A master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Education with specialistaion in ECDE, English Home Language Education or related (Lecturer).
- Professional teacher’s qualification (Foundation Phase Education or equivalent or a clear indication of re-routing
- towards ECDE).
- A minimum of two (2) years’ teaching experience or working in school settings in foundation phase or similar.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
- Registration with SACE.
- Lecturing on a full-time or part-time basis.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Driver’s license.
- Innovative teaching and lecturing skills.
- Skilled in teaching English Education to ECDE students (for children aged 0-9).
- Comprehensive IT skills and knowledge.
- Ability to function in the multi-lingual NWU environment.
- Functional knowledge of the education sector / system.
- Skills, experience and knowledge to develop undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in ECDE.
- Research competencies that contribute to the advancement of English within ECDE.
- Excellent command of the English language to teach in English as the Language of Learning and teaching, and competency in at least one other LoLT (preferably Afrikaans Potchefstroom campus) of the NWU.

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
