Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Teaching, research and community engagement in the field of Movement Education.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching:
  • Teaching several modules in Movement Education and Life Orientation at undergraduate and postgraduate levels – in both distance and contact mode.
Research and Supervision
  • Research and postgraduate supervision in the field of Movement Science, with appropriate publications.
Programme Development
  • Curriculum development, among others developing study material and study guides for Movement Education modules in the different programmes.
Administration
  • Administration of assignments, assessments, marks, resources, etc.
Community Engagement
  • Community service: collaborating with schools to ensure students provide Physical Education services to the schools while doing their practical training in the schools.
Work Integrated-Learning
  • Work-Integrated Learning / Teaching Practice.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
SENIOR LECTURER
  • A PhD in Movement Science or Physical Education – or equivalent (NQF 10).\
  • A Professional Teacher’s Qualification (NQF level 6-8).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience in a schooling environment.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ lecturing experience on full-time or part-time basis.
  • Two (2) accredited research outputs.
  • One (1) successful higher degree supervision.
LECTURER
  • A Master’s degree in Movement Science or Physical Education – or equivalent (NQF level 9).
  •  A Professional Teacher’s Qualification (NQF level 6-8).
  • A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in a schooling environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ lecturing experience on full-time or part-time basis.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
  • South African Universities Physical Education Association.
  • Registration with SACE.
KEY FUNCTIONAL & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Innovative teaching and lecturing skills
  • Physical ability to teach practical movement and sport skills.
  • Comprehensive IT skills and knowledge
  • Ability to function in the multi-lingual NWU environment
  • Functional knowledge of education sector / system
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

REMUNERATION:
