Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and/or postgraduate statistics modules and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules. Other duties include the supervision of honours students.
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching & Learning.
· Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules.
Development of new modules.
2. Research & Innovation.
· Supervision of honours students and studying towards a PhD
degree/supervision of postgraduate students.
3. Money stream 3.
· Participate in other money stream 3 endeavours, such as the
presentation of short courses.
4. Administration/Management.
· Help with administrative and management tasks within the subject
group.
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· A Master of Sciences degree in Mathematical Statistics or related field (NQF level 9).
· A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in teaching undergraduate and honours courses.
· Proven publication track record or studying for a PhD.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
· A PhD in Mathematical Statistics or related field (NQF level 10).
· Registration towards studying a PhD in Mathematical Statistics or related field.
· Membership with the South African Statistical Association (SASA).
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
The candidate must be able to:
· analyse data using advanced statistical techniques by means of
suitable statistical computer packages (such as SAS, R, SPSS and STATISTICA).
· provide guidance with regards to data collection.
· present both undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules.
· act as group coordinator for modules with multiple groups.
· handle large undergraduate classes.
· supervise honours students.
· communicate well in English (verbally and in writing).
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· Work independently, but also as a team.
· Have very good people skills.
· Professional and ethical behaviour.
· Be able to act as a mentor for junior staff.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
