PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
As the most senior representative of the Faculty of Humanities on cite / campus, manage the operational delivery to achieve the unitary Faculty strategy and plan. In addition, provide functional and academic leadership and quality assurance across campuses in respect of Community Engagement.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy Development
· Co-determine faculty strategy and joint accountability for the implementation thereof
· Jointly accountable for the successful implementation of the NWU Teaching and Learning strategy
· Jointly accountable for the successful implementation of the NWU Research and Innovation strategy
· Jointly accountable for the successful implementation of the Faculty Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations activities
· Jointly accountable for successful implementation of the overall NWU strategy
· Translate the Faculty strategy into a site implementation plan and assist to operationalise it
Operational Management
· Lead and direct day to day operational planning, performance and quality, ensuring alignment with the faculty plan
· Participate in planning with schools and entities and the annual Faculty calendar
· Oversee and manage utilisation of resources and finances as allocated by the Executive Dean
· Deputise for the Executive Dean
· Accountable across campus as chairperson of relevant Faculty Board Committee(s)
Community Engagement / Service-Learning and Commercialisation
· Implement coordinated and integrated teaching and learning, research and innovation, community engagement strategies
rolled out across the public sector, science councils and universities, with the private sector playing a key role in the so called quadruple-helix strategies where societies and people/beneficiaries are included in the process together with the government, universities, and industry.
· Manage continuous community engagement/service learning and stakeholder engagement in relation to the faculty plan, NWU academic standards and assessment frameworks
· Assist with the academic and operational management of the development, accreditation and offering of short learning
programmes in co-operation with the relevant entity directors
· Steer the Community Engagement and Commercialisation
· Committees as standing committees of the Faculty Board and reporting to the Faculty Executive and Faculty Board
· Facilitate the development of strategies that will support the community engagement, service learning and commercialisation strategy
· Facilitate the development and assist in the implementation of guidelines, strategy, and process documents, including the coordination and communication of community engagement, service learning and commercialisation
· Communicate and report on research-related community engagement, service learning and commercialisation management, as well as performance parameters and benchmarks
· Manage both the marketing of research and the formal formation of collaborative community engagement service learning and stakeholder networks
· Facilitate the provision of an effective support service to ensure quality management for service learning and commercialisation support, including the facilitation of research ethics applications
· Facilitate and encourage the development of the community engagement / service learning and commercialisation capacity
of academic staff via quality improvement in submission of applications, and research-related training to enable academics to write about community engagement, service learning and commercialisation from a research perspective
· Joint accountability to update and review the faculty quality manual
· Joint accountability to drive the integration of research outputs into teaching and learning to enhance professional qualifications and graduate employability
· Drive community engagement initiatives that are integrated with research and innovation
· Ensure preparation of students for post-graduate research programmes where relevant
· Implement profitable programmes and initiate and sustain third-stream revenue generating initiatives to increase financial
Strength
· Project implementation under direction of the Executive Dean to optimise under- and post-graduate throughput quality
· Drive socially responsive local community projects, supportive of faculty objectives and departmental programme content
Student Relations
· Liaise with students and parents. Build relationships and resolve escalations
· Increase Students' identification and association with the faculty and its operation across campuses
External Relationships
· Secure funding, professional recognition, academic development, employment, through effective local and international relationships with peers, higher education institutions, research community, industry, professional bodies and the community.
· In consultation with the Executive Dean, position and promote the faculty and ultimately the NWU Brand, through effective marketing and communication, relationships with local government, the community, industry, students, parents and alumni and other stakeholders.
· Promote and drive internationalisation and commercialisation
Management and Leadership
· Faculty effectiveness and efficiency inclusive of infrastructure and facilities

Minimum requirements
· A PhD in one of the faculty’s disciplines (NQF Level 10).
EXPERIENCE:
· A minimum of 3 years’ middle or senior level management experience.
· Financial and budgeting experience on middle or senior management level.
· Middle or senior management experience within the Higher Education environment.
· Research and Scholarship excellence.
