Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To effectively maintain safety and security on the NWU Vanderbijlpark campus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Strategy Development
  • Implement the NWU strategy on the Vanderbijlpark Campus.
  • Be accountable for successful implementation of the overall NWU strategy.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders with regards to protection services through various mediums. Prepare and present formal and informal security briefings to members of the NWU (Vanderbijlpark Campus).
 
2.    Crime Information Management
  • Ensure that crime, incidents, and information be disseminated to relevant authorities.
  • Management of the interpretation of Crime threat analysis and the utilisation, interpreting and reporting thereof. 
  • Manage that criminal profiles and field observations be established.
  • Ensure that crime information, crime maps and matrixes are interpreted, and that information be gathered to identify flash points, hot spots (where), peak times (when) and find explanations (why) crimes take place within the NWU. 
  • Ensure that crime information be recorded on CHASE, CAS, and Information register.

3.    Crime Prevention and Operations
  • Ensure that members report on, and off duty as prescribed on the SOP.
  • Ensuring that all employees have clear work allocations and instructions.
  • Ensuring the delivery of effective patrolling/access and access control to ensure a safe campus environment to the best interest of the NWU Vanderbijlpark Campus. Service providers must be visited to ensure compliance and report any defects.
  • Ensure that all incident reported must be raised ion Chase.
  • Ensure that all administrative duties of the control room are efficiently completed.
  • Ensure that resource management is done efficiently.

4.    Security
  • To ensure that physical crime prevention measures are conducted within regulations and policy directives.
  • Ensuring the identifying of high-risk buildings and assets.
  • To ensure that all requirements are met concerning legislation, law on disaster management, health and safety at sports and special events/protest actions.
  • Ensure adherence and compliance on service level agreement between protection services and relevant stakeholders including overseeing outsource security services.

5.     Training and Development
  • Identify training needs for NWU (Vanderbijlpark Campus) Protection Officers and Control room Operators.
 
6.    SPECIAL EVENTS AND EMERGENCY SERVICES
  • Ensure, manage, and coordinate the maintenance of firefighting and fire equipment.
  • Ensure, manage, and coordinate a basic medical service to service the three campuses of the NWU · Ensure and manage the provision of emergency services during special occasions risks.
  • Ensure the management of Special Events in accordance with relevant legislation.
 
7.    Disaster Management
  • Compliance to allocated function from the disaster management plan to ensure immediate response to relevant disasters.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders an incident response and management plan of catastrophic incidences

8.    Management and Leadership
  • Joint accountability with leadership team for the management effectiveness of the NWU protection services Security.
  • Values based behaviour leadership and personal compliance.

Minimum requirements

  • A diploma or degree in Security Management or equivalent (NQF level 6/7).
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a seasoned Security Officer.
  • PSIRA registered.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Intermediate – Advanced computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office: Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (by radio and telephone) skills to effectively function within a multicultural and multiannual environment.
  • Ability to work according to planning schedules with measurable intermediate goals. Complet4e and maintain an accurate pocketbook and incident documentation.
  • Complete and conduct regular visitations, seizure(s), and present evidence to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform reactive service once alarms are triggered.
  • Advanced interpersonal and investigation skills.
  • Effective planning, organizing and execution skill with reference to traffic and access control.
  • The ability to facilitate opening and closing of buildings.
  • The identification and reporting of Occupational Health and Safety risks and hazards.
  • Search query services.
