URPOSE OF THE POSITION:
In support of teaching and learning, provide a comprehensive IT service to all Personnel and post Graduate students in the School of Computer Science and Information systems on Potchefstroom campus. To identify, address and solve IT related incidents as well as provide professional advice on IT related upgrades and technologies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide comprehensive IT support for undergraduate and postgraduate PC laboratories in SCSIS.
2. Provide comprehensive IT support for research computers in SCSIS.
3. Provide comprehensive IT support and innovation for staff of SCSIS.
Minimum requirements
- A bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Computer Science and Information Systems/ IT.
- A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in system and network administration.
RECOMMENDATIONS / ADDED ADVANTAGES:
- A and N certificates
- Membership of Professional IT/CS/IS societies.
- Work experience in NWU IT support.
- Work experience in enterprise level IT.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Assist and implement practical training in beef, sheep and goat production to students and short-term course trainees in these units.
- Be able to setup client / server environments for student laboratories as well as research projects.
- Function independently.
- Assist with administrative tasks.
- Evaluate and operate computer equipment in SCSIS.
- Work under pressure and reach deadlines.
- Respond in a timely manner to IT related requests.
- Learn about and acquire expertise on new technologies.
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environments of the NWU.
- Patience and ability to provide IT assistance remotely and on university premises.
- Have a good understanding of networks, printers, software and software licensing.
- Record keeping.
- Liaison with Campus IT.
- Troubleshooting of IT problems (intermediate to advanced).
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
