Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching
  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the subject group at undergraduate and postgraduate levels – in a combination of distance and contact modes.
Programme and module development
  • Development of new modules and study material in Educational Management and Leadership in the different programmes offered.
Research and supervision
  • Research and postgraduate supervision in the field of Educational Management and Leadership, with appropriate publications
WIL/Supervision
  • Work-integrated learning.
Community Engagement
  • Community engagement and stakeholder relationships
Administrative
  • Administrative tasks, specifically related to the online Learning Management System of the NWU.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
PROFESSOR:
  • A PhD in Educational Management and Leadership – Education Policy and education law focus may also be appropriate (NQF 10).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in in the field as Associate Professor.
  • Research expertise that demonstrates substantial research quality and relevant impact, as reflected in the publication of articles in accredited journals and/or books published by pre-eminent academic publishers.  An increased number of high-quality articles (general guideline: more than the number of years since promotion/appointment) in accredited and preferably high-impact journals and/or an increased number of high-quality peer reviewed
  • The candidate must be focused on excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the applicable fields.
  • Completed supervision of at least three Master’s and two Doctoral students.
  • Clear indication of sharing of expertise and community engagement
RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • Leader and/or involvement in funded research projects.
  • NRF rated.
  • Knowledge of classroom management and/or HR management and or financial school management.
 ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR:
  • PhD in Educational Management and Leadership – Education policy and education law focus may also be appropriate (NQF10)
  • 5 years’ experience of previous employment in the field at least at the level of senior lecturer
  • Teaching and learning: The candidate must demonstrate excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the applicable fields.
  • Completed supervision of a Master’s degree student as well as promotion or co-promotion of a PhD student commenced and in process.
  • An increased number of high-quality articles (general guideline: more than the number of years since promotion/appointment) in accredited and preferably high-impact journals. Author/co-author of at least 5 research articles in accredited journals in the last 5 years
  RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • Knowledge of classroom management and/or HR management and or financial school management.
FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
  • Knowledge of teaching in different modes of delivery (recommended)
  • Language proficiency to function in a multilingual environment
  • Knowledge and skills in training pre-service teachers to teach in multilingual environments (recommended)
  • Computer proficient – command of Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams for online meetings/classes and Excel. Experience of eFundi will be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with the Google platforms (Drive, Forms, Slides and Docs).

  • Good communication skills (verbal, written and use of technology)
