Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
In support of teaching and learning, provide a comprehensive IT service to all personnel and post graduate students in the school of science and information systems on Potchefstroom campus. To identify, address and solve IT related incidents as well as provide professional advice on IT related upgrades and technologies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide comprehensive IT support for graduate and post graduate PC laboratories in SCSIS.
- Provide comprehensive IT support for research computers in SCSIS.
- Provide comprehensive IT support and innovation for staff of SCSIS.
Minimum requirements
- A Diploma (NQF level 6) or an Advanced Diploma (NQF level 7) in Computer Science and Information Systems or Information Technology.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in Systems and Network administration.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- Have an A and N , accreditations in ITIL foundation.
- Have acquired membership for IT/CS/IS professional societies.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ work experience within the NWU IT support group.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in IT enterprise level.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Be able to setup client / server environments for student laboratories as well as research projects.
- Function independently.
- Assist with administrative tasks.
- Evaluate and operate computer equipment in SCSIS.
- Work under pressure and reach deadlines.
- Respond in a timely manner to IT related requests.
- Learn about and acquire expertise on new technologies.
- Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environments of the NWU.
- Patience and ability to provide IT assistance remotely and on university premises.
- Have a good understanding of networks, printers, software and software licensing.
- Record keeping.
- Liaison with Campus IT.
- Troubleshooting of IT problems (intermediate to advanced).
REMUNERATION
