Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
A Junior Lecturer / Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution and carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional activities in the profession or discipline. An academic at this level is also expected to play a role in scholarship, research, and/or professional activities.
1. Teaching and Learning:
- The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions, and studio sessions.
- Initiation and development of subject material.
- Marking and assessment.
- Consultation with students.
2. Research and Innovation:
- Conduct research.
- Involved in professional activity.
3. Academic leadership:
- Involved in school and faculty committees.
- Contribute to advising students and recruitment activities.
4. Social responsiveness:
- Involved in community engagement and sharing of expertise.
Minimum requirements
· Junior Lecturer:
- An honour’s degree (NQF level 8) in Marketing Management or a relevant field.
- A minimum of 1 year’ experience in the presentation of relevant subjects in an undergraduate teaching programme.
- Illustrate evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied, or creative works.
· Lecturer:
- A Master of Commerce (NQF level 9) in Marketing Management or a relevant field.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the presentation of relevant subjects in an undergraduate teaching programme.
- Illustrate evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied, or creative works.
RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:
· Formal qualification in Digital marketing.
· Must have experience in digital marketing or marketing communication.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Computer literacy in MS Office, e-mail and internet.
· Knowledge of modern platforms (such as blackboard, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaborative environment.
· Commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational environment.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· Effective time management skills.
· Effective communication skills.
· Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.
· Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
· The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group.
· Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as the ability to be self-driven.
· Ability to solve problems independently.
· High level of professional and ethical conduct.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
