Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Research outputs related to one or more of the following fields within the School of Psycho-Social Education: Educational Psychology, Life Orientation, Learner Support and Movement Education. A secondary focus on ECDE will be an advantage.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     Research and Supervision:

  • Research, postgraduate supervision and capacitating of junior staff re research in the fields of the School of Psycho-Social Education, with appropriate publications and delivery of students. Furthermore – the potential to lead research projects and obtain funding for research in a related field.

2.     Administration:

  • Administrative tasks.

3.     Community engagement

Minimum requirements

·          A PhD (NQF 10) in Education with Educational Psychology and/or Life Orientation and/or Learner Support and/or Movement Education as areas of specialisation.

·          A minimum of 3 year’ lecturing experience at a higher education institution.

·          Must have proven research experience on a full or part-time basis.

·          A record of consistent accredited publications and successful supervision of higher degree students.

RECOMMENDATIONS / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

·         ECDE as secondary focus will be an added advantage.

·         Professional Teacher’s Qualification (NQF level 7)

·         Registered with the South African Council of Educators SACE).

·         NRF rated.

·         Teaching or practical experience in the field in a schooling context.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

·          Innovative teaching and lecturing skills.

·          Physical ability to teach practical movement and sport skills.

·          Comprehensive IT skills and knowledge.

·          Ability to function in the multi-lingual NWU environment.

·          Functional knowledge of education sector / system.

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

·          Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.

·          Able to work independently and as part of a team.

·          Effective time management

·          Ethical principles and academic integrity.

·          Resilient work ethic.

 

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
