Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The successful incumbent will be responsible for teaching undergraduates and postgraduate students in Education Law modules, as well as supervising ERTP, Master, and PhD students. He/she will have to be actively involved in research and community engagement activities and participate in academic leadership in order to make an important contribution to the faculty’s core business.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.      Research
  • Scholarly guidance, innovation, and initiation with regard to research in Education Law.
2.      Teaching
  • Teaching postgraduate and undergraduate modules in Education Law. Supervising masters and PhD
students.
3.      Community Engagement
  • Involvement in community engagement activities/initiatives

Minimum requirements

Associate Professor
·       A PhD (NQF 10) in Education specialising in Education Law.
·       A minimum of 5 years’ experience in teaching Education Law at a higher education institution.
·       Author/co-author of research articles in accredited journals.
·       Supervised at least 2 master students to completion.
·       Involvement in promoting a PhD student.
·       Participation in teaching and/or research activities at community level.
 
Senior Lecturer
·       A PhD (NQF 10) in Education specialising in Education Law.
·       A minimum of 5 years’ active involvement and participation in teaching and learning in higher education.
·       Leadership experience (Active academic leadership and/or involvement in school and faculty committees).
·       Experience in Work Integrated Learning (Involvement in WIL and teaching and/or research activities at community level).
·       Completed supervision of at least one master’s degree student.
·       At least two published accredited research publications.
 
Lecturer
·       A master’s degree in education (NQF 9) specialising in Education Law.
·       A minimum of 3 years’ active involvement and participation in teaching and learning at school level.
·       Leadership experience (Involvement in school committees).
·       Engaged scholarship (experience in Work Integrated Learning and some involvement in service learning and/or a community engagement project).
·       Research (Some evidence of research activities after the successful completion of the master’s degree).
 
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
·       Member of funded research projects.

·       Have a proven publication record – especially over the last 5 years.
·       Have a proven record of teaching and learning in higher education.

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
