PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The candidate is expected to make contributions in the teaching and learning effort of the subject group/ department, school, faculty, and other organisational units or interdisciplinary area within the NWU. The successful candidate must play a role in scholarship of research, community engagement and/or professional activities. The candidate requires a PhD in Public Administration and be active in research and innovation activities.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning
- Teaching and learning within the subject group, including postgraduate supervision.
Research and Publication
- Be able to undertake research, attend conferences and support or mentor junior staff members.
Community engagement
- Participate in community engagement projects within the school and faculty
Administrative and academic leadership roles
- Be able to assist students with administration within the school such as programme leader, participating in committees, student inquiries and similar other responsibilities.
Minimum requirements
- A PhD in Public Administration (NQF level 10).
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in teaching and learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Have proven experience of presenting/attending relevant national and international conferences.
- Research outputs in accredited journal(s).
- Involvement in supervision of both master’s and PhD students’ to successful completion.
- Have a proven record of active involvement in field specific community engagement initiatives.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
- Involvement in NRF – funded research projects.
- Membership with South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM), Association of Southern African Schools and Departments of Public Administration and Management (ASSADPAM), African Association of Public Administration and Management (AAPAM), International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IASIA).
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Possess a depth and breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated in academic area of the core knowledge relating to
- Public Administration in order to teach and support learning on Public Administration courses and modules.
- Knowledge of teaching strategies and student support.
- Commitment to the achievement of the strategic objectives of the subject group and the school.
- Excellent analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven.
- The ability to function well individually and as part of a team.
- Good organising skills, as well as the ability to work at a fast-moving pace and comply with stringent deadlines.

REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
