Introduction
NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) DIVISION: FINANCE AND FACILITIES DIRECTORATE: GOVERNANCE, REPORTING AND TREASURY POSITION: DIRECTOR POSITION NUMBER: N001134 PEROMNES: P5 APPOINTMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Director must fulfil the regulative Governance & compliance, Reporting and Treasury function at the NWU and is responsible to: maintain the General Ledger data on Kuali Financial System (KFS), as well as its access; provide statutory financial statements and financial management reports; manage money market activities, earmarked grants and bank accounts; manage all related aspects ensuring correct financial data, including asset register and tax aspects; manage and sustain financial systems, policy, processes and control measures for the NWU to ensure long-term financial sustainability and continued operating efficiency - functional / business side; fulfil functions pertaining to the position as well as other duties that may, from time to time, be entrusted by the Chief Director Finance: manage the department.
Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  •    Management and Leadership.
  •    Financial Reporting.
  •    Treasury: Manage the Money Market Investments (and cash flow) ensure that the NWU receives maximum returns within the approved risks.
  •    Management of Earmarked Grants.
  •    Management of the Kuali Financial System (KFS).
  •    Tax Services.
  •    Management of the Asset Register.
  •    Risk and compliance management
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  •    Computer literacy (MS Office as well as email and internet).
  •    Up to date knowledge regarding requirements that must be adhered to – by law (VAT etc.), department/section (DHET) requirements, standards (IFRS), institution policies (NWU), etc.
  •     Ability to multi-task and still function effectively under pressure - ensuring accurate work at all times.
  •     Excellent time management, organisational skills, as well as the ability to prioritise.
  •     Language proficiency to function optimally.
  •     Sound knowledge of financial systems and relevant experience.
  •     Good management qualities and planning skills.
  •     Ability to exercise financial discipline.
  •     Must be results orientated.
  •     Experience in the establishment of financial management and control systems.
  •     Advanced decision-making skills and problem solving.

Minimum requirements

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  •      A B. Com Honours (CTA) degree (NQF level 8) in Accountancy.
  •      A minimum of 5 years’ financial management and control systems experience.
  •      A minimum of 3 years’ Articles/internship experience at an audit firm.
  •      A minimum of 3 years’ management experience in a financial environment.
  •      Must have SAIPA /SAICA membership.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
  •      A M. Com (NQF level 9) in Accountancy.
  •      A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a university environment.
