PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To provide teaching, learning and research duties in the Subject Group Physicses
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. RESEARCH
- Conduct research projects as required
- Quality assurance of research outputs
- Drive and grow international collaboration.
- Support engaged research in the faculty
2. TEACHING & LEARNING
- Teach courses as required
- Quality assurance and management of teaching outputs.
- Drive and manage teaching and learning productivity and outputs
- Manage and partake in student communication and support activities.
3. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Participate in community engagement activities
4. LEADERSHIP
- Participate in the leadership / adminstrative activities of the Physics Subject Group and the Centre for Space Research
Minimum requirements
- PhD in Astrophysics / Astronomy / Space Physics / Material Physics
- 2 years’ teaching and learning experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- 1 year post-graduate supervison and training experience
- 2 years’ experience as an active researcher
KEY FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Research interests should align with the scope of the Centre for Space Research (CSR): Radio / Optical / Gamma-ray Astronomy / Cosmic-ray Physics / Heliospheric / Space Physics / Material Sciences for Space Applications.
- Record of postgraduate student supervision
- Record of successfully applying for research funding will be beneficial.
- Leadership and outreach (community engagement) experience will be beneficial.
- Demonstrable theoretical / modelling / experimental physics expertise.
- Teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate physics context.Excellent problem solving skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Knowledge of the higher education system
- Demonstrate language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU
