Job description
1. Learning Experience Design to enhance the teaching experience of lecturers as well as the learning experience of students.
- Manage Learning Experience Design and Development projects according to faculty plans and requests from T&L committees in faculties.
- Consult with lecturers to understand teaching & learning requirements and scope to design innovative blended learning activities, incorporating new learning technologies and learning theories with the aim to enhance students’ learning experience. Develop a design plan to be implemented.
- Advising lecturers on the best digital solution(s) for their T&L need(s) to enhance the teaching experience of lecturers as well as the learning experience of students – with special reference to the best digital solution(s) for online assessment need(s) to enhance the teaching experience of lecturers as well as the learning experience of students.
- Record keeping on all T&L design activities (including satisfaction rates) for reporting purposes.
- Learning Experience Design projects managed and delivered on time.
- Build personal relationships with lecturers during consultation and execution of Learning Experience Design projects.
- Collaborate in quality reviews of programme/module communities (sites) and recommend improvement actions to academic staff.
2. Research, investigate, review (and advise on) the educational application of technology to enhance T&L.
- Assist with system administration tasks for the Cirrus online assessment system managed by CTL in partnership with IT.
- (Improve integration between systems (LMS and Cirrus) and automation of support and workflow processes through working with strategic partners such as IT as well as the Cirrus project leader.
- Participation in DTLE identified projects (see project list).
- End user satisfaction assured through reduction of manual processes by appropriately integrating systems and workflow. Enhanced accuracy achieved.
- High level of end user satisfaction achieved for all services provided by DTLE.
3. Personal Development
- As per personal development plan. It is the responsibility of each staff member to take charge of his/her personal development journey in order to perform all their duties effectively. Make use of every opportunity to develop their own skill sets.
- Network and collaborate with stakeholder, internally, nationally and internationally, to share innovative ideas/best practises/trends to regarding the integration of technology into T&L strategies.
4. Staff and student development and support regarding the effective implementation of the T&L environment at the NWU.
- Participate in Continuous Professional Development (dates to be determined on CPD calendar) at the NWU by:
- Presenting/co-presenting CPD opportunities regarding Teaching with Technology.
- Develop training material for the CPD opportunities presented.
- Plan and run initiatives and develop job aids for adoption and integration of T&L technologies.
- Record keeping on all activities (including satisfaction rates) for reporting purposes.
- Training material up to date and available for each training session.
- Training opportunities planned and scheduled.
5. Ad Hoc
- To be managed with line manager.
Minimum requirements
- Honours degree in Instructional/Learning Design and Technology (NQF Level 8)
- Master’s degree in Instructional/Learning Design and Technology (NQF Level 9) desirable
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years’ demonstrable experience as a Learning Experience Designer, Instructional Designer, or Curriculum Developer.
- 2 years’ demonstratable experience as an Educational Technologist
- 2 years’ project management experience
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Demonstrable experience as a Learning Experience Designer, Instructional Designer, Curriculum Developer or Educational Technologist.
- Solid knowledge of contemporary educational strategies and technologies.
- Good knowledge of and ability to investigate the educational application of technology.
- Proficiency in at least two official languages.

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
