Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Junior Educational Technologist role is a team-centred position responsible for, under supervision of the Educational and Senior Educational Technologists, researching, investigating, and reviewing of the educational application of technology to enhance T&L and to create and maintain an enabling DTLE at the NWU. The Junior Educational Technologist will further provide assistance with technical assistance with the implementation of teaching and learning technologies. The Jnr Educational Technologist position requires an individual to work with a high level of independence, have a sense of instructional design principles and theories, have a strong inclination towards project management, communication and collaboration and a willingness to provide superior customer service. The individual should also have a passion for innovative educational solutions to enhance the teaching and learning experience of academic staff and students.
 
The main focus of this position will be to assist with the implementation and maintenance of the online assessment environment to develop the necessary strategies, processes and procedures to incorporate the Cirrus system in the online module design process. The Educational Technologist will work with the Cirrus project leader to ensure that the rest of the Educational Technology team will be able to fully support the Cirrus system – thus ensuring continuity of the online assessment environment.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.    Learning design in an online environment to enhance the teaching experience of lecturers as well as the learning experience of students.
2.    Systems administration and support.
3.    Professional and Personal Development.
4.    Ad Hoc

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·         A Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Educational technology (or related fields in education).
·         A minimum of 3 years’ experience as Educational Technologist with proven ability to troubleshoot and solve technology problems and demonstrable knowledge of how technology can be implemented for Teaching and Learning.
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
·         An Honours degree (NQF level 8) in educational technology (or related fields in education).
 
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
·         Knowledge of digital assessments and the skills to facilitate Technology-enhanced learning on meso- and micro level.
·         Solid knowledge of contemporary educational strategies and principles.
·         Good knowledge of and ability to investigate the educational application of technology.
·         Proficiency in at least two official languages.
·         Knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education teaching and learning environment.

REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
