These vacancies occur in the School of Industrial Engineering.

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
(ASSOCIATE) PROFESSOR
Teaching, Learning and Supervision
  • Lecture typical industrial engineering modules; supervise final year project, MEng and PhD studies.
Research
  • Executing own research. Taking lead in existing/ set up new Faculty supported research group.
Innovation/Commercialisation/Business Development
  • Ensure the commercial implementation of research results, getting grants.
Management
  • Involvement in the management /administration of the school/ faculty.
(SENIOR) LECTURER
Teaching, Learning and Supervision
  •  Lecture industrial engineering modules; supervise final year project, MEng and PhD studies.
Research
  • Participating in a Faculty-supported research group.
JUNIOR LECTURER
Teaching, Learning and Supervision
  • Lecture industrial engineering modules.
Research
  • Participating in a Faculty-supported research group as post graduate student.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
  • An appropriate PhD (NQF level 10).
  • Either a degree in Industrial Engineering, or a degree in another engineering discipline combined with significant appropriate Industrial Engineering experience.
  • A research portfolio that will qualify for NRF-rating within the next three years
  • A minimum of 7 years appropriate work experience in a higher education context
SENIOR LECTURER
  • An appropriate PhD (NQF level 10) and an appropriate Master’s degree (NQF level 9) combined with professional registration as an Industrial Engineer.
  •  Either a degree in Industrial Engineering, or a degree in another engineering discipline combined with significant appropriate Industrial Engineering experience.
  • A research portfolio as can be expected from a senior lecturer
  • A minimum of 3 years’ appropriate work experience.
LECTURER
  • An appropriate Master’s degree (NQF level 9).
  • Either a degree in Industrial Engineering, or a degree in another engineering discipline combined with significant appropriate Industrial Engineering experience.
JUNIOR LECTURER:
  • A B.Eng or BScEng degree (NQF level 8) in Industrial Engineering from a Washington Accord accredited university.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
  • Registration/ registrable as Professional Engineer with Engineering Council of South Africa
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet
  • Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance
  • Research methodology and technical writing
  • A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing
  • Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment
  • Effective time-management skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU
  • The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group
  • Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven
  • The ability to solve problems independently
  • Good planning and organising skills as well as good report writing skills
  • A high level of professional and ethical conduct
