Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Department of political studies and international relations is seeking to appoint a new Senior Lecturer with a particular interest in political science. The Department of political studies and international relations is in dire need of an experienced senior political scientist in cores areas of political theory, political economy, and Political Inquiry (Research Methodology).

JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and learning
  •       Teaching and administering of examination of allocated modules.
Research & Innovation
  •       To be able to publish at least two Journal articles in DHET accredited journals or scopious indexed journals.
  •       Supervise masters and doctoral candidates.
Community Engagement
  •       Effective participation in community development projects

Minimum requirements

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  •       A PhD Degree in Political l Science (NQF 10)
  •       A minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching and learning
  •       A minimum of 3 years’ research experience
  •      A minimum of 2 years’ experience in community engagement
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
  •     Membership with AAPS/SAAPS
FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
  •        Possess a depth and breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated in the academic area of core knowledge relating to political science to teach
  • And support learning on political science modules
  •       Practical administrative experience and experience to lead the focus area- Political Studies.
  •       Consistent track record of excellent teaching across a variety of modules and levels within political science discipline, with a PhD degree in political science.
  •       Possess five years of post-qualification experience at the university level and teaching experience and
  • Show evidence of scholarship as attested to by publications (at least five journal articles) in academic journals in the field of political science
  • Including supervision of honours and master students.
  •       The supervision of PhD students would be an advantage.
  •       Understanding and application of the HEQF framework in a university environment.
  •        Involvement in community engagement initiatives would be a requirement.
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
  •       Evidence of publication in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
  •       Academic leadership in curriculum development
  •      Teaching of honours and undergraduate students as well as the Supervision of honours research projects
  •       Projecting the good image of the department in terms of recruiting students and maintaining relations with local stakeholders
  •       Representing the department in different committee or administrative meetings of the faculty and school of government studies
  •      Excellent scholarly publications in mainstream journals in Political Science and have an impressive record in postgraduate supervision.
