PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
A Senior Lecturer is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of a department, school, faculty, other organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. An academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and/or professional activities. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise students on the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and doctoral degree candidates.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching & Learning
• Demonstrate excellence in postgraduate teaching by submitting a reflective portfolio that critically reflects on teaching and
• learning practices.
• Develop and implement effective learning environments, including face-to-face and blended approaches.
• Utilize learning management systems (LMS) and online platforms for teaching and learning.
• Employ effective assessment practices and reflect on student feedback.
• Successfully supervise or co-supervise MBA mini dissertations
• Complete the CTL and other T & L development courses.
• Develop and update study guides according to CTL requirements.
• Integrating responsible management and sustainable development goals (SDGs) into the curriculum.
• Provide evidence of the impact on and transfer of competencies to students.
• Teach on the MBA and/ or PGDM programme.
2. Research, Innovation, and/or Creative Outputs
• Engage in research activities and contribute to the School’s research efforts
• Demonstrate relevance and intellectual creativity in research or creative outputs, as peer review confirms.
• Publish at least one article in an accredited journal and one paper in a peer-reviewed conference proceeding.
• Participate in collaborative international research projects.
3. Academic Leadership, Management, and University Service
• Participate in school and faculty committees, contributing to the overall academic leadership and management.
• Provide guidance and support to students, including advising and recruitment activities.
• Presenting at least one Bon-Bon annually.
• Active participation in the scientific committee
• Active participation in the programme meetings
• External examiner for MBAs and PhDs
• Internal examiner/moderator for MBA and PhDs
• Consulting work (application of expertise)
4. Social Responsiveness
• Engage in community engagement initiatives, such as media comment, education, or activities benefiting specific communities.
• Participate in awards, prizes, grants, or other acknowledgements that recognise service at any level.
• Contribute to academic citizenship and demonstrate a commitment to sharing expertise with the community.
Minimum requirements
• A PhD (NQF level 10) in Data Modelling in Management Sciences, Digital Innovation or related fields.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in teaching at postgraduate level (preferably at a business school).
• Three (3) years Industry-related experience.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
• Ability to develop programme outcomes and module content at MBA/ Postgraduate Diploma and Executive Development levels.
• A record of research supervision and publishing articles in academic journals.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
• Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and internet.
• Clear evidence of strength in teaching and learning in a blended environment and research and innovation activity.
• Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the
learning and collaboration environment.
• Knowledge, skills, and practical experience in the field of Data-driven Decision Making, Analytics, Artificial Intelligence,
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated a high standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work both independently
and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Demonstrated language skills (in English and at least one other official South African Language) to function optimally within
the multi-lingual environment of the NWU.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
• Have excellent people and conflict resolution skills.
• Can apply time management and work independently (on their own and without supervision).
• Must be able to work well in a group.
• Demonstrate initiative and leadership in research and teaching and learning.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
