PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Providing quality service regarding teaching and learning, research and innovation, and community engagement and commercialisation activities within the Subject Group: English for Education.
JOB DESCRIPTION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching and Learning
- Teaching a variety of English modules within a multi-modal delivery approach of teacher training programmes at under- and postgraduate level. Expertise and experience of teaching English at school and/or a higher education institution are required. Supervise postgraduate students in English Language Education.
Research
- Perform research in the fields of language learning and teaching.
Community Engagement and Service Learning
- Active participation in the development of community-based research by adapting and designing modules for service learning.
Administration
- Planning, organising, and record keeping as part of office and subject (module) administration in accordance with faculty’s teaching policy and close collaboration with the subject group (meetings).
Work Integrated Learning
- Active participation in order to operationalise the WIL programme at all levels.
Minimum requirements
JUNIOR LECTURER
- A Honour’s degree (NQF level 8) in English Language or English Language Teaching or relevant.
- An educational professional qualification (NQF level 7) in Language Teaching Methodologies/ Didactics.
- A minimum of one (1) year functional and subject related experience in Primary and or Secondary teaching
LECTURER
- A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in English Language or English Language Teaching or relevant.
- An educational professional qualification (NQF level 7) in Language Teaching Methodologies/ Didactics.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ functional and subject related experience in Primary and or Secondary teaching.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- Registered with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).
- A minimum of one (1) year functional and subject related experience in Tertiary teaching.
FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)
- Subject knowledge: English HL and/or FAL.
- Teaching skills: Language Methodology and Didactics.
- Assessment competencies.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office Suite) Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- High standard of work ethics.
- Communication.
- Able to work individually as well as part of subject group (team).
- Ability to create own structures, adhere to deadlines and work in a self-directed manner.
REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
