Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Providing quality service regarding teaching and learning of academics as university teachers, research and innovation in Higher Education Studies, and community engagement within the Subject Group: Higher Education Studies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching and Learning
- Development and presentation of a variety of NQF-Level 8 SLPs which will articulate with PGDip to be offered in 2027. This will also contribute to the development of the PGDip still to be developed in the remaining 2 years of the UCDG Project. Facilitate workshops in the field of Teaching and Learning in higher education, using engagements to develop content for SLPs.
2. Research
- Conduct research in higher education studies, with specific focus on Teaching and Learning in a transforming higher education context.
3. Community Engagement and service Learning
- Active participation in the development of academics as a community and designing modules for service learning for academics.
4. Administration
- Coordination of content development for academic programmes, planning, organising and record keeping as part of office and subject (module) administration in accordance with faculty’s teaching policy and close collaboration with CHEPD leadership.
5. Work Integrated Learning
- Continuously professionalising themselves in the field of higher education studies to enhance their ability to develop academics in evidence-based practices in teaching and learning.
Minimum requirements
- Master’s in Higher Education studies/Education/Social Sciences/cognate field of study
ADVANTAGE
- PhD degree in Education/Social Sciences/cognate field of study
- Experience in curriculum development/design/academic developer
- Experience in research involvement/conference presentation
EXPERIENCE
- 3 years functional and subject related experience (Tutoring/ Lecturing/Academic Development in tertiary education)
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Subject knowledge: Education/Social Sciences/Higher Education Studies/cognate field of study
- Teaching skills: Lecturing/Tutoring/Facilitation
BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
- High standard of work ethics
- Communication
- Able to work individually as well as part of subject group (team)
- Ability to create own structures, adhere to deadlines and work in a self-directed manner.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
