Job description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The main purpose of these positions is to provide a generalist comprehensive, proactive and integrated HR business partnering advisory service to line management and employees. To execute HR core processes, maintain healthy people relations on campus and develop effective working relationships with staff, management and unions.
1. HR Process Execution
- Provide strategic partnering, change management and operational expertise to the Faculty/Support Divisions.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with line managers, staff, internal and external HR colleagues.
- Provide leadership and guidelines to the Faculty/Support Divisions management about People and Culture operational plan and relate policies.
- Support, execute and monitor HR processes on campus aligned to overall People and Culture strategy.
- Work closely with People and Culture unit and managers in faculties and support units on campus to ensure cohesive and coordinated services.
- Advise, coach and support line managers and staff in the execution of HR value chain and core processes from performance management including probation, talent management, recruitment and selection, job evaluation, remuneration and benefits, induction, development and training, staff wellness, organizational design, culture and transformation interventions and employee wellness and academic probation – to ensure consistency with relevant legislation and policy and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues in COE to ensure integrated service is offered to our clients.
- Consult and advise managers and staff on various day-to-day HR practices.
- Monitor and ensure compliant HR practices.
- Coordinate and compile weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly reporting aligned to strategic metrics including trend analysis and recommendations.
2. Employee Relations
- Facilitate the resolution of ER matters in line with policy and guidelines.
3. HR Operations Support
- Facilitate the maintenance of position and organisation structures as per policy.
- Participate in budgeting, workforce planning processes, Employment Equity analysis, relevant committees and structures as required.
- Execute appointment and exit/ termination procedures administration and mitigate risk in line with policy and guidelines.
- Advise line managers on Employee Relations policy, process and procedure as it pertains to disciplinary, grievance, restructuring, incapacity, conciliation, mediation, arbitration and compilation of evidence required for all these processes.
- Proactively managing projects and change management initiatives.
- Undertake specific projects, in consultation with line management, to facilitate HR activities and enhance client service.
- Provide timeous and relevant HR management information, data analytics and reports.
4. Recruitment, Selection and Placement
- Execute all recruitment, screening, selection, placement and on-boarding/induction on campus.
- Compile internal/external advertisements, verify against policy and approve.
- Conduct screening, shortlists and interviews.
- Arrange psychometric assessments for shortlisted candidates – joint accountability as per approval.
- Compile and extend offer letters.
5. Research
- Research – study/knowledge of Human Resources trends/developments, practices, procedures nationally and internationally.
6. Personal Leadership
- Stakeholder relationship development and effectiveness.
- Regulatory and statutory compliance and reporting.
- Process and system utilisation and adherence.
- Personal effectiveness, wholeness and development.
- Values-based behaviour leadership and personal compliance.
- Teaming and coaching of junior team members.
Minimum requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources (NQF level 7) or related fields.
- A minimum of 5 (five) years’ operational experience as an HR Generalist.
ADDED ADVANTAGES:
- An honour’s degree in Human Resources (NQF level 8) or related fields.
- A minimum of 5 (five) years’ operational experience in HR Systems.
- IPM and SABPP memberships.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- In depth knowledge of HR business partner processes as it applies to the organisational context.
- Knowledge of talent management principles, practices, philosophies and procedures.
- Knowledge of general Human Resources principles, practices and procedures.
