NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF EDUCATION SCHOOL FOR MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION POSITION NUMBER: P000508 VACANCY: LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A8 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION A lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop his/her professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.
Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching :
·       The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions.
·       Initiation and development of subject material.
·       Development of course material with appropriate advice from and support of more senior employees.
·       Marking and assessment.
·       Consultation with students.
·       The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
·       Teaching activities include initiation and development of unit materials and may include the supervision of honours students.
·       Teaching of modules in B.Ed, PGCE, B.Ed Hons, on contact and distance mode, etc.
Research
·       Supervision of the program of study of honours students.
·       Supervision of major honours research projects.
·       The conduct of research.
·        Involvement in professional activity.
Community engagement
·       Initiate and manage community engagement projects.

Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
·        Fundamental Knowledge of Mathematical concepts (including didactics) to teach Mathematics content modules for undergraduate B.Ed students and postgraduate B.Ed Hons students.
·        Knowledge of dynamic teaching- learning technologies (e.g. GeoGebra).
·        A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing.
·        Good computer skills in Word, Ppt, Excel, etc.
·        Use of electronic learning environments, Internet and email.
 
Behavioural Competencies
·       Good communication skills.
·       Good interpersonal Skills.
·       Operation in a multi-language environment.

Minimum requirements

·       A MSc (Mathematics Education) or MEd (Mathematics Education) or MEd (Curriculum studies with focus on Mathematics Education) (NQF level 9).
·       A post graduate qualification (NQF Level 8 )(e.g. BSc Hons (Mathematics Education) or B.Ed. Hons in Mathematics Education)
·       A bachelor’s degree NQF Level 7 (BSc, BScEd or BEd) with mathematics as a major subject up to university level 3.
·       Registered with SACE.
·       A minimum of 2 years’ applicable teaching experience as a mathematics teacher.

REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
