PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Involvement in teaching & learning, research and community engagement activities within the subject group.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lecturer
- Teaching-learning of Mechanical Technology modules and all related organizational and management tasks.
Research
- The furthering of own qualifications (if applicable). Involvement in general research (e.g., publishing in accredited journals, presenting papers at conferences, etc.).
Community Engagement
- Be involved or initiate community engagement projects.
Minimum requirements
- A master’s (NQF level 9) degree in Mechanical Technology or related field (Lecturer).
- A B.Ed. honours degree or an honours degree (NQF level 8) in Mechanical Technology or related field (Junior Lecturer).
- An initial teachers’ qualification in Mechanical Technology or related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ applicable experience teaching Mechanical Technology in secondary education or relevant related field.
ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:
- Registration with SACE.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ teaching-learning experience in a tertiary institution in Mechanical Technology Education or related field.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Capable to provide students with knowledge and practical skills regarding all elements related to Mechanical Technology education in the South African context, with the primary focus on FET phase Mechanical Technology specific Fitting and Machining and the secondary focus on FET phase Mechanical Technology (Welding and Metalwork & Automotive);
- Engineering Graphics and Design and Computer Aided Design.
- Experience and use of the FET Phase CAPS Mechanical Technology (Automotive; Welding and Metalwork; Fitting and Machining).
- Experience with regards to the use and maintenance of machinery in the Mechanical Technology field specific Fitting and Machining.
- Relevant research experience.
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
- Continuous Learning (Improve qualifications, knowledge and skills).
- Collaborating with others (Be part of the Technology Subject Group).
- Should be able to adapt to different modes of teaching (Online, Distance, contact classes).
REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
