Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this position is for the Jnr Digital Marketer to utilise expertise to create and engage on various digital media platforms in collaboration with the Manager and Senior Manager and in line with the NWU brand attributes. The Jnr Digital Marketer works in conjunction with the other sub sections of the department. The candidate must be knowledgeable regarding social media platforms, best practices, monitoring and content management and give sound advice. The fullest understanding of the various social media platforms is essential to execute projects of all sizes and complete them with resourcefulness and dedication.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Digital Media: content creation, design and publishing

  • Responsible for the execution of digital campaigns.
  • Responsible for the digital media platforms in terms of marketing, corporate and stakeholder communication
  • Ensure that the University's brand strategy is applied to all digital platforms.
  • Help to identify brand ambassadors on the different campuses and support the campaigns that result from this.
  • Support senior digital marketers in digital advertising campaigns.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and layouts on different media.
  • Sound knowledge of software and relevant content management systems.

Monitoring and engagement

  • Monitor official NWU social media platforms daily. 
  • Monitor the NWU Brand on various social media platforms with monitoring tools.
  • Proficient: Knowledge of principles for providing customer and personal services, managing relationships with customers through various channels
  • Knowledge of tertiary environment.
  • Language Ability to function within the multilingual policy of the University and its different target audiences.
  • Advanced: High level of competency in terms of computer literacy. 
  • Advanced: High level of photography, videography – capturing and editing aimed at creating and curating content across various platforms.
  • Advanced: Marketing automation software, Web Analytics Tools, Content Management Systems, SEO Tools, Graphic Design Tools, Social Media Management Tools, CRM Systems & A/B Testing Tools.
  • Advanced: Managing and optimising online ad campaigns across platforms.
  • Advanced: Leveraging social media platforms effectively for marketing purposes and analysing data to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and make data-driven decisions. 
  • Driver’s license and willingness to travel.
  • Proven knowledge of content management systems as well as a thorough knowledge of trends in digital media environment.

KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficient: Artistic talent – good sense for technical and visionary (visual) language, typography and style as well as good visual literacy and a developing frame of reference for multimedia and digital design.
  • Creativity - In-depth digital campaign and content capabilities and the ability to think creatively and deliver clever concepts, seeing the idea through the creative process to final sign off.
  • Prioritise - The ability to prioritise and keep a cool head to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Customer service - Ability to effectively liaise and communicate with the various stakeholders at various levels and from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Engage with audiences over various spectrum of social media platforms according to the voice and tone of the NWU and the brand attributes. 
  • Alert in a timely fashion the relevant stakeholders of potential brand damage and crisis situations. 

Ad Hoc 

  • Perform ad hoc tasks as assigned by supervisor. 

Minimum requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Marketing or Communication.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the field of digital media marketing and communication which includes digital media content creation, publishing, design and monitoring.

ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:

  • Photography and videography knowledge.
  • A minimum of three (3) years previous experience in the field of digital media advertising – compiling and execution.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Advanced: Knowledge and thirst to investigate, innovate, and develop trends and creativity with an emphasis on digital media platforms. Understanding marketing principles, market segmentation, targeting and positioning.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail - to deliver accurate products conforming to applicable quality standards.
  • Time management – The ability to work responsibly and single mindendly and apply good time management. 
  • The ability to give knowledgeable advice with regards to digital media campaigns, content, best practice and integration with different marketing campaigns (including printed as well as digital material) to strengthen the NWU brand attributes and message.

REMUNERATION:

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
