PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The North-West University, Mahikeng Law Clinic(Community Law Centre) is committed to legal education and access to justice. In terms of the Legal Practice Act 28 of 2014 a candidate attorney needs to complete practical vocational training in order to be admitted as a legal practitioner. This position is essential to provide legal services to the community and to provide LLB graduates the opportunity to gain access to the legal profession whilst doing community service. The position is funded through external funding. The appointment is made for a fixed-term period of 24 months. And to provide access to justice and legal aid to indigent communities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Consultation and interviewing clients.
- Court appearances.
- Research.
- Student mentoring.
- Community workshops.
- File management.
Minimum requirements
- An LLB (NQF level 8) in Legal.
- Registered with the Legal Practice Council of North West.
- Professional membership with the Legal Practice Council of North West.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- A minimum of one (1) year Law Clinic experience.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Typing, Microsoft, Excel.
- Good communication skills.
- Research.
- Interviewing skills.
- Consultation skills.

REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
