PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The nGAP position in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences is part of the SSAUF initiative by the DHET to improve the academic staffing at South African universities. It is a prestigious programme to enable young black candidates to follow a career as an academic. nGAP employees will participate in a six-year developmental programme on a permanent full-time basis under the University's normal conditions of service and will work under the supervision of an appointed mentor. In order to achieve the developmental aims of the programme, nGAP employees will have a reduced teaching load over the first three years of their appointment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching:
- Teaching undergraduate & postgraduate students.
Research:
- Conducting research and supervision of postgraduate students.
Organisational & management tasks:
- Assist with management tasks.
Minimum requirements
- A MSc (NQF level 9) in Pure Mathematics: Algebra, Topology & Functional Analysis. The Master's degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above. Please attach proof of results in your application.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in teaching under-and-postgraduates.
- Applicants must be SA citizens and 40 years or younger of age.
ADDED ADVANTAGE:
- A professional membership with SAMS/SANUM/AMS/SAMSA.

REMUNERATION
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
