Minimum requirements

  • Junior Lecturer : BA in Arts with English/Languages/Linguistics or LLB is essential. In both instances candidates need to be studying toward their postgraduate degree to qualify as Junior Lecturer
  • Lecturer : Honours or Masters’ Degree in English/Languages/Linguistics with experience in Teaching Language Skills to Law Students / LLM in any field of law is essential.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in Teaching at an institution of higher learning (preferably teaching language skills to (law) students) as a lecturer.
  • Admission as an attorney or an advocate will be an added advantage.
  • Publication in accredited journals will be an added advantage and plays a part in the level of appointment.
  • Proven record of effective Experience in post-graduate supervision will be an advantage and plays a part in the level of appointment.
  • Candidates with expertise concerning teaching, learning and research in any of the following subject fields: Experience in Teaching Language Skills Modules to (Law) Students. Preference will be given to candidates with an Honours or Masters degree in Languages (English) and / or Candidates with an LLM that has experience in teaching Language Skills Modules to Law Students.”.”

FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS):

  • Proven expertise and experience in linguistics or in teaching languages at an institution of higher learning will be an advantages.
  • Qualification in both law and languages will be an advantage.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as email, Internet and the electronic retrieval of legal sources.
  • The ability and experience in working with LMS(eFundi, Blackboard, etc)  and online teaching will be an advantage
  • Experience in Ccurriculum development
  • Well-developed Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Languages skills (as well as legal language skill) in order to function optimally in the different multilingual environments of the NWU

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
