Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Visit crime scenes:
· Prevent contamination of incident scenes.
· Preserve the incident scene.
· Cordon-off incident scene.
· Identify and record exhibits on the incident scene.
Priority and incident investigation:
· Receive and Investigation of all GBV and Sexual Offense related cases.
· Obtain statements from the complainant/ victims of crime whilst avoiding secondary victimisation.
· Obtain statements respondent (s) and witness (es).
· Assist the victim to open the criminal case at SAPS if necessary.
Offer psychological support to victims and survivors:
· Offer support for the psychological and social consequences of trauma, e.g., trauma debriefing; accompany survivor to SAPS.
Adopt a multifaceted approach to the prevention of sexual and gender related misconduct:
· Conduct social mobilisation activities and campaigns intended to promote safety on and off campus and in the prevention of sexual and gender related misconduct.
· Conduct campaigns to educate and inform the campus community about policies and guidelines.
Compilation of accurate incident and investigation reports:
· Submit a report as soon as the incident is reported to the Senior Manager, Protection Services.
Management of information:
· Submit a monthly report to the Senior Manager, ITO
o Number of cases received.
o Detection rate.
o Cases withdrawn.
o Dockets to SJS and ER.
o Disposal rate
Minimum requirements
· A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Police/ Criminal Justice or a Diploma in Incident Investigation or equivalent.
· A minimum of 3 years’ experience in conducting investigations for Gender Based Violence and Sexual Offences.
· A minimum of 3 years’ experience in dealing with victims of GBV, Sexual Assault and as well working knowledge of trauma centres for Victim support and Counselling such as (Tutuzela Centre).
· A code B valid drivers’ licence.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
· Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
· Conflict management skills.
· Analytical skills.
· Knowledge of relevant legislation (Equity Act; Domestic Violence Act; and Sexual Offences Act).
KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:
· High level of emotional intelligence.
· Gender sensitivity.
· Gender consciousness.
REMUNERATION:
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
