PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
This is an academic position on the Potchefstroom campus within the School of Human Movement Sciences, subprogram Kinderkinetics. The purpose of the position is to fill a vacancy. The Lecture/Senior Lecturer will perform Teaching and Learning, Research and Community engagement activities within the School of Human Movement Sciences and the Physical Activity, Sport and Recreation research focus area.
Job description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaching and Learning:
- Teaching and Learning to graduate and post graduate students.
2. Research:
- Self-initiated research, national and international publication, grant applications, conference presentations, supervision of post-graduate students and collaboration in research projects.
3. Community engagement:
- Community engagement through implementation of expertise
Minimum requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Honours degree in Kinderkinetics and/or Master’s Degree in Human Movement Sciences specializing in Kinderkinetics (Lecture).
- PhD in Human Movement Science specializing in Kinderkinetics (Senior Lecture).
- Registration with South African Professional Institute of Kinderkinetics (SAPIK).
- Experience in supervision of Honours, and/or master’s and PhD students (Lecture: desirable; Senior Lecture: essential).
EXPERIENCE:
- Teaching and Learning:
- Motor Learning and Control; Swimming; Gymnastics; Special need population; Kinderkinetics practical and theoretical modules; any modules related to paediatric exercise sciences, practical experience regarding the presentation of Kinderkinetics lessons
- Lecture:1 – 3 years
- Senior Lecture: 3 - 5 years
Research
- Lecture: Supervision on Honours students’ mini dissertations. Involvement in research projects related to Kinderkinetics / Paediatric exercise science.
- Senior Lecture: More than two ISI accredited publication, supervision of a Master’s student and research project management.
KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Experience and knowledge in Kinderkinetics.
- Experience and applied knowledge in Human Movement Sciences related to Motor Learning and Control, Kinderkinetics theory and practice, and/or Paediatric Exercise
Sciences.
- Experience and knowledge to present gross motor development and remedial lessons to neuro-typical and a-typical developed children.
- Application of research knowledge and evidence of involvement in research projects within the field of Kinderkinetics and/or Paediatric Exercise Sciences.
- Ability to supervise research students at honours, and/or masters and/or at PhD level.
- Ability to conduct basic and applied research in the field of Kinderkinetics and/or Paediatric Exercise Sciences.
- Experience in grant application, project management and conference presentations (Lecture: desirable; Senior Lecture: essential).
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), emails, the internet, and electronic diaries.
- Experience of a LMS system will serve as an advantage.
